TEMPE, Ariz. -- Cam Skattebo rushed for a career-high 262 yards, quarterback Sam Leavitt ran for two touchdowns, and Arizona State held on in the final minutes for its first win over a Southeastern Conference opponent, beating Mississippi State 30-23 on Saturday night. The victory marked the Sun Devils' first triumph over an SEC team, breaking Mississippi State's 10-game winning streak in non-conference games.
Skattebo and Leavitt combined for 193 rushing yards in the first half alone, propelling the Sun Devils to a commanding 27-3 halftime lead. Despite a late surge by the Bulldogs, including an 80-yard touchdown pass from Blake Shapen to Kevin Coleman Jr., Arizona State's defense and disciplined clock management allowed them to run out the clock with a game-sealing 39-yard run by Skattebo.
