Virginia Tech Hokies claimed a convincing win over the Marshall Thundering Herd with a final score of 31-14. The Hokies established their dominance early with a spectacular 58-yard punt return touchdown by Jaylin Lane at the end of the first quarter. This marked Lane's first punt return touchdown as a Hokie and the second of his career.
The Hokies, leading 10-7 at halftime, rallied in the second half with touchdowns on their first three second-half possessions. Bhayshul Tuten opened the second half with a 1-yard touchdown run, his fifth 100-yard rushing game as a Hokie and the 15th of his career. Although Marshall closed the gap to 17-14 with Stone Earle’s 18-yard touchdown pass to Christian Fitzpatrick, strong defensive and offensive plays, including a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Kyron Drones and a 5-yard touchdown pass to Da'Quan Felton, secured the victory for Virginia Tech. Despite Marshall’s efforts, including notable performances from A.J. Turner and Christian Fitzpatrick, the Hokies' balanced attack and formidable defense were too much to overcome.
